BLADE LIFE: An Interview with Mason Richard

What is your full name?
Mason Joseph Richard.

My middle name is Joseph too! Right on.

How old are you, and how long have you been blading?
I’m 16 and I’ve been in the blade game for five years now. Six years on June 21st.

Nice. How long have you been with Remz?
Three years now.

Do you have any other sponsors?
Yep yep, just got the hook up with Havok!

Sick. What do you think of the new line?
I’m really impressed. The new shirts are a lil bit thinner and fit really well. Definitely worth the money, holler!

Who do you usually blade with?
All the Austin bladers. I’d mention names but it would be way too long.

Which bladers do you like watching the most?
That’s a hard one. Of course Chris Haffey; best of all time. And I really like the way James Beary from Bama blades.

Are those your top two?
Wellsmore and Robbie Pitts are really awesome, too.

You’re probably most famous for your p-rail edits… how many have you made?
Ha, ha, too many!

What do you think about the Rollernews haters?
No big deal, they hate on just about everyone. Though they should definitely appreciate all the bladers making the damn edits to hate on!

Very true. That being said, do you think you need to “grow a jaw line”?
Hahahaha… losers.

What type of spots/obstacles do you prefer to blade on?
All those perfect Cali spots, and all kinds of weird, crazy spots.

Speaking of crazy, what would you say is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
Blading or non-blading?

Both.
Ummm, I think for the non-blading it would be jumping off Pace Bend in Austin. Blading would be 540 AO Acid to wrap around Switch Acid on the infamous down-ledge at Eisenberg’s back in ’07 or ’08. That was pretty satisfying.

So Pace Bend… you jumped off a big ass rock into a river?
Yeah, it was off the 70ft end. Did once and never again. Ha, ha.

So you were here in Corpus a week ago filming with Anthony Medina, right? Can you tell me what you guys are working on?
Oh yea for sure. A couple of us went down to film for Ant’s upcoming video with sections on Rob Zbranek, Alex ‘Dench’ Harlan, Ian Freunscht, and yours truly!

What’s the name of the video?
Not 100 percent yet, but you’ll see it on your favorite blade sites soon enough.

So, what is Mason Richard doing with his life? Any serious plans for the future?
You know it! Gonna go to a community college during the summer to get more credit so I can graduate next year, then hopefully go to Texas State or something along those lines.
